About This Tour

In the ancient world, Delphi was the centre of everything. Greeks travelled for weeks to ask the Oracle a single question. They climbed the slopes of Mount Parnassos, paid the priests, and waited — sometimes for days — for an answer that might change the course of a war, a marriage, or a kingdom. Today the marble of the Temple of Apollo is silent, but the mountain still holds something — a stillness you feel before you can name it. This is a private day from Athens to Delphi and back, designed for travelers who don't want to spend their day on a tour bus with thirty strangers. Your Mercedes V-Class arrives at your hotel in the morning. Your Local Expert chauffeur — Athens-born, deeply familiar with the route through Boeotia — greets you, settles you in with chilled water and Wi-Fi, and begins the drive. The first hour takes you out of Athens, past the battlefield of Marathon's neighbor Boeotia and the Plain of Thebes, where Oedipus once walked. By the second hour the road climbs, and the air changes. You'll see Mount Parnassos before you reach it — the snow lasts well into May. At Delphi you'll have a slow morning at the archaeological site: the Treasury of the Athenians, the Theatre, the Stadium where the Pythian Games were held, and the Temple of Apollo itself. The site's museum, ten minutes away, holds the Charioteer of Delphi — one of the most extraordinary bronze sculptures to survive from antiquity. Your chauffeur waits, ready to drive you up the mountain whenever you are. Arachova comes next. A village of stone houses and red roofs at 950 metres elevation. Lunch — your choice from a list of three taverns we trust personally — slow, generous, mountain food. Wild greens, slow-cooked lamb, local cheese. After lunch, a wander through the cobbled lanes, time for a coffee and a photograph at the famous clock tower viewpoint. The road back is quieter. The light is lower. Your chauffeur knows when to talk and when to let the mountain do it for you. Winter months (December–March): the Parnassos road may carry snow. Mercedes V-Class is fully equipped with winter tyres; the route remains comfortable but driving time can extend by 30–45 minutes.
